Anesthetic risk and surgical safety (what you need to know to keep your pet safe)
😱 Don't gamble with your pet's life. When it comes to your furry friend's surgery, knowing the risks is crucial for their safety!
🩺 Surgery may not be just routine - from a tiny risk of 0.01% for neutering procedures (that's 1 death for every 10,000 surgeries) through to a 16% death rate for the sickest of patients, the risk really does vary hugely by individual.
🏥 Several measures can increase safety: from pre-surgery blood tests, weight management, to advanced monitoring equipment - these are vital!
💡 The takeaway? Proactive health management & choosing a vet with the right skills & equipment is a game-changer. It not only reduces risk but ensures peace of mind.
💬 Have you ever delayed a surgery for your pet due to fear of anesthesia risks? What could have eased your worries? Share your thoughts!

    I am so worried that the next time my dog has a seizure he will not wake. He's only been having them for about 4 or 5 months but a few weeks ago they got really bad and he had four or five of them within an hour or two I took him to the vet put him on keppra but a week later he had two more and today he's acting funny and I am scared to go to work this morning. He's 3 years old German Shepherd. Play last anywhere between a couple minutes up to 4 or 5 minutes. I don't like him being alone I want to be there for him when after he has one. It has stressed me out so bad that I begin to have tightness in my chest because I'm so worried something bad especially when I'm gone. I don't know longer business so sometimes I say the hell with the yards and I stay home with him. But I know I have to go to work.

    Vet gave prednisone. No other recommendations. I'm trying other things, and weaning off the prednisone, but dog's limping. Keep on the prednisone indefinitely, as they recommend? Or continue to wean while using various supplements and exercise?

    • @OurPetsHealth
      @OurPetsHealth День тому

      I wouldn't recommend prednisone for arthritis. First line pain killers are most commonly a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (this is a drug class with lots of different options) or librela is a new option. The best option will depend on patient history etc

    I am being driven insane by a feral cat colony my neighborhood is keeping. Like man, I'm really financially poor, my country doesn't have a tnr program. I've checked. I love cats and don't want to hurt them, but I'm being exposed to feces and urine on a daily basis when I go outside since my lawn is a dang highway to them. When I cut my lawn if I've missed a mess then it just turns to dust as I mow. Do I need to deal with breathing that in too? I feel like a prisoner on my own property, the smell is horrible when I go outside.

    Thank you so much for the thorough information. My 14 yr old Lab has had 2 episodes in 2 months. The first time he was recovering in 5 days. The second time, its been 2 weeks. He is such an independent boy but I still help him potty, and walk. He is back to following me around the house and taking car rides with me. I give him full body massages when he gets anxious. He's eating good. We are continuing to love each other day by day. Thank you soo much for the understanding and hope. You have lifted my spirit! Hugs and handshakes to you!!!😊

    I took our 14 year little staffy Ellie yesterday and it was one of the most heart breaking things to have to do. She had almost lost all hearing, eyes were becoming milky, constantly shaking, hadn’t eaten for two days and night before she had a terrible fit and vomited, it was time. Her quality of life wasn’t there anymore and she wasn’t enjoying anything day to day. She had a brilliant life with long walks, played with other dogs and loved absolutely everyone. I’m in pain today but what gives me comfort is knowing I was able to stop the suffering and be there with her as she went

    I spayed my cat a month ago and bow she is on heat. When took her to vet the doc said it is due to hormones as it will still be present for a month and gradually she will recover and her heat cycle will slow down and told me to wait a month or so to see if her head cycle reduces completely. What do you think? Should i wait or should i have a second opinion?

    After the big 3 gasses, all other gasses, including the greenhouse gasses, make up 0.04% of the atmosphere. Water vapor is the #1 greenhouse gas, followed by CO2, then methane. It's not an issue. I was talking to a coworker about using a catapult and just hurling it out of the yard.

    This is wonderful to read! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Our 13 year old Roxie developed serious vertigo early Tuesday morning ( today is Thursday afternoon). I was terrified. We nursed her, finally got a vet appointment on Wednesday afternoon . We are watching her, supporting her. She's on a vet vertigo drug, Cerenia, very expensive, for 2 days. But at least we have hope and can support her, go all the way with her. And she knows we love her. She will be okay! Thank you for this video, which was recommended by your vet friend!!

    My poor sweet boxer is going through a false pregnancy now. She had her 1st litter of pups last summer and had her 1st heat after the pups 6 months later. Almost 2months after her heat I noticed her teats swelling and she lost her appetite and started laying around more than normal. Finally she began to pick up random objects and carry them around whining and crying. She brought one toy up to bed last night and I had to go back downstairs with her to get ALL of her “babies” and put them in my bed to get her to lay down and go to sleep😢 I feel so bad for her, she’s currently loving on her “play” button

    Thank you thank you thank you. I was unsure if my pup just ate a grape (I didn’t see it drop but he sniffed at the floor and when he looked back up at me he licked his lips while I was plating chicken, grapes and Brussels sprouts). Hes a 35 pound pitt bull/lab/chihuahua mix i lovingly call my little vacuum/stomach of steel because of how much trouble he likes to get into. It makes me feel good knowing that one on accident won’t hurt him. I can rest easier. And of course, I will still monitor.

    My dog had seizures for a while. It seemed to be a quarterly occurrence. One day when I came home he was walking around like he was drunk ataxia. He could not even stand without his legs sliding on the hardwood floor and splaying out to the side. This was shortly after a Bravecto dose. The vet that put him on it then put him on Gabapentin after accusing me being careless with cannabis, instead of jeopardizing the $600 annual Bravecto billable. At least give the pooch IV lipids if you are going to go with that accusation. I didn't give him the dose that was due two months ago and it all stopped. He also doesn't have convulsions in his sleep anymore. It's worth a try if you have an honest vet. North Oakville Animal Hospital is not that vet.
